Here, a simple scene is made into something special. I hope through my paintings, viewers begin to know the things that are important to me and that I care about.
Many of my ballet paintings are available as cards or prints at

This is my daughter Emma. She was posing for me in her ballet costume. She is not in ballet this year, but has, instead taken up singing lessons.

To achieve a loose feeling in this painting, I used a large brush and used all the leftover paint on my palette. I also have recently taken advice from master painter Neil Patterson and I am currently not using any medium or turps. This makes the paint nice and thick, and layers exceptionally well.

I Surrender ~Ballet Painting by Janice Warriner

I Surrender
16 by 20 oil on stretched canvas
available on my website at http://www.janicewarriner.com/

At first this may seem like an unusual title for the ballet, but I could only see complete surrender in both their faces and their entire bodies.  They knew the moves, position and every step to the music and so they moved, as it seemed, effortlessly.   Completely surrendered.

Beautiful ~Ballet Oil Painting by Janice Warriner

Beautiful
9 by 12 oil on canvas
available on my website http://www.janicewarriner.com/

The idea behind this painting was to capture the mood of the ballerina and setting with light, color and composition. The quiet, calm mood of the ballerina is thus reflected in both the colors and the position she is sitting in. In complete contrast to yesterdays ballerina's which are exuberant and full of life, and translates right into the background of the canvas. Perhaps todays ballerina is resting after a tiresome performance.

Angel with Cowboy Boots - Palette knife painting of angels by Judy Mackey

"Angel with Cowboy Boots"
14" x  11", Oil on Board

I had this image of cowboy boots...maybe it's because I'm a part of the Artists of Texas and there is a lot of Texana in our paintings....?  And I live in Texas....and I was thinking - I'd like a pair of cowboy boots...
This angel seems to be walking with a lot of spunk...big steps...like Texans...and yet lost in thought...

I hope your angel, the one who watches over you, has spunk.  That they aren't too cautious when the devil sitting on your other shoulder is whispering for you to do something you're not comfortable with - that your "good" angel isn't making you do things that are too safe...

For the Mae Wests in us!  YAY!

Can I Come Along - Male Angel Palette Knife Oil Painting by Judy Mackey

"Can I Come Along"
12" x  9", Oil on Board

The one thing that sometime scared me was, will my pets be cared for if I should leave?  The title is for that thought.  It's also a cool looking "dude" angel with sunglasses.

Just a thought - be sure to remember your pets in your wills, be sure to ask friends who will be guardians to take care of them and - update your wills!   I know this is not a topic/reminder you thought you'd find but since I'm painting Angels - I thought I'd just mention it!
