While spending a beautiful day holiday shopping on Crockett Street in Ft Worth, I came upon this handsome young man soulfully playing his violin. Not only was he a talented musician, he served as a great model for this painting. He was long limbed and thin with beautiful dark eyes.
Many years ago on my first visit to Paris, France my husband and I enjoyed the instrumental sounds of this small symphony while shopping at an upscale area of the city. The treasure that came from this shopping excursion was this experience. I have painted in the medium of watercolor, my version of the experience for your enjoyment. As in many of my paintings, "Sidewalk Symphony" is about pattern of light and the gestures of the musicians.
I painted this from a bad cell phone photo shot in a dark cafe. I then Photoshopped it until I could make out the musician enough to paint him. He was with the San Miguel Five, a band that is famous in San Miguel de Allende, and for good reason. They played haunting Argentine music that was at times so sad that it made someone cry (I won't say who). I love night scenes, and I love to paint musicians and feel the music all over again.
